Quality Assurance
The Peter Smith Valve Company Limited Quality Policy is operating a Quality Management System of continuous improvement to ensure product conformance and customer satisfaction.
To achieve this objective, the Company is registered by the BSI as a firm of assessed capability which operates an audited Quality Management System in compliance with BS EN ISO 9001 and holds a Certificate of Registration, number FM 01392.
It is the aim of the Company to comply in all respects with valve standards and legislation concerning product performance and operational safety, particularly the PRESSURE EQUIPMENT (SAFETY) REGULATION 2016 No.1105 as amended and PRESSURE EQUIPMENT DIRECTIVE 2014/68/EU.
The Company has obtained BSI Approved / Notified Body Certificates of Conformity for the Design and Manufacture of Pressure Accessories and Assemblies (Industrial Valves) against the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulation / Pressure Equipment Directive as follows:
UK Quality Management System, Design & Manufacture for full product range. CERTIFICATE No. UKCA 62276. conformity Assessment MODULE H for identified cast steel products only. MODULE A and SEP for cast iron and gunmetal products applies.
EC Quality Management System, Design & Manufacture for full product range. CERTIFICATE No. CE 742992. conformity Assessment MODULE H for identified cast steel products only. MODULE A and SEP for cast iron and gunmetal products applies.
The Quality Control System and Manufacturing Procedures employed are applied equally across the whole company and all products to the same level, irrespective of the category classification, determined by the PE (S) R / PED Assessment Tables.
All Peter Smith valves are manufactured, assembled, tested and inspected to the highest relevant product standard in full compliance with the Essential Safety Requirements of the PE (S) R / PED.
All valves will be certified in compliance with the PE (S) R / PED by the application of the approved UKCA / CE Mark for category 1, including the BSI Approved / Notified Body identification number for category 3 or the SEP Mark for the Sound Engineering Practice valves onto a specific data plate attached to each valve.

PE (S) R / PED Product Classification is dependent upon the line media and operating conditions that will be applied.
All Peter Smith Valve catalogue products are suitable for applications & fluids in group 2, with our standard materials of construction.
The Peter Smith Valve Co. Ltd does not undertake to offer the customer valves suitable for applications for fluids in Group 1.
Group 2 fluids are other fluids including steam.

SEP = Sound Engineering Practice = NOT UKCA / CE MARKED
Valve Designs and Technical Files established and approved by PSV Co Ltd in accordance with UK / EU Harmonised and appropriate controlling Valve Standards.
SEP valves manufactured by PSV Co Ltd in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 approved quality system are excluded from the scope of SI 2019 No. 696 Schedule 1B and PED 2014/68/EU in accordance with the charts Annex B.
CATEGORY 1 = UKCA / CE MARKED ON DATA PLATE
Valve Designs and Technical Files established and approved by PSV Co Ltd in compliance with UK / EU Harmonised Standards, appropriate controlling Valve Standards and the PE (S) R / PED. Valves manufactured at PSV Co Ltd in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 approved system, and in compliance with PED 2014/68/EU MODULE A
CATEGORY 3 = UKCA MARKED ON DATA PLATE WITH NOTIFIED BODY IDENTITY NUMBER 0086 / CE MARKED ON DATA PLATE WITH NOTIFIED BODY IDENTITY NUMBER 2797.
Valve Designs and Technical Files established and approved by PSV Co Ltd, sample approved and verified by Approved / Notified Body (BSI) in accordance with UK / EU Harmonised Standards, appropriate controlling Valve Standards and in accordance with SI 2019 No. 696 Part 11 and PED 2014/68/EU, Module H.
Valves manufactured at PSV Co Ltd in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 approved quality system verified by Approved / Notified Body, are in compliance with SI 2019 No. 696 Part 11 Module H, Certificate No. UKCA 62276 and PED 2014/68/EU Module H, Certificate No. CE 742992.
Valve classifications and the resultant categorisation have been pre-determined by the PE (S) R / PED.
The requirements for marking and labelling are specified within the Regulation and Directive.
All the valves classified SEP MUST NOT be identified with the UKCA / CE marking.
LPCB CERTIFICATE APPROVAL
Peter Smith Valve Company Ltd. has now been approved to Loss Prevention Certification Board – Draft LPS 2083 Issue 1.0. on the 14th June 2024, Certificate Number 1791a now applies. VALVE INSTALLATION AND DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY

Copies of operating and maintenance instructions will be issued as required to the customer, or can be found on this website.
